Spring Break 2010

Dr. Hodous learned years ago that in a college town, everyone clears out for Spring Break, so he and his family always take a trip.  This year they visited Arizona and got to experience many climates and numerous locations!  Here are just a few photos of his trip!

Dental Health Month 2010

February is Dental Health Month and a month that our office looks forward to each year!  It’s a time for us to get out in our community and have fun with the local schools.  This year, we visited the kindergarten and first grade classes at Root Elementary.  While it is our focus to teach the kids the importance of brushing, flossing and visiting the dentist,  we love to have fun.  Dr. Hodous brought along his special guests of honor, The Tooth Fairy and Molly the Molar.  It is always great to see the kid’s eyes light up when they walk in.  We hope the kids enjoyed our visit as much as we did!

Halloween Candy

With Halloween quickly approaching, have you ever wondered which candy is the worst for your child’s teeth?

Some of the popular candies that are most children’s favorites are extremely acidic and are comparable to the levels of battery acid.  These candies are harmful as they are not just gulped down, but chewed or sucked skittleson for quite some time.  This means the mouth becomes more acidic and the teeth are susceptible to damage.  Repeated exposure and frequency, the sour candy can also lead to a number of oral health problems, including increased cavities, tooth sensitivity, staining, and loss of shine.                                                                                                 starburst

Some of the popular candies that are causing these problems are Starburst, Sour Skittles, Laffy Taffy, and Bubble Tape.  Beware of the label “sour or tart” on candies.  Make sure your child rinses their mouth out with water after consuming the candy.  Do not brush immediately after having sour candy, its acidic nature would soften the tooth enamel and brushing would abrade the enamel.laffy-taffy

Just a few tips to keep in mind for this Halloween!

Dr. Hodous was able to spend over 3 hours with David Cook, the 2008 American Idol winner and Randy Jackson, one of the judges.

Dr. Hodous doesn’t need to be voted on in our opinion - he’s  a winner in our book!
